I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed by Collabs.io (formerly Subkit), a platform dedicated to stories of entrepreneurs and freelancers in the digital world. An opportunity to reflect on the journey so far and share some thoughts about our industry.

The Interview Context

Collabs.io is a platform that collects and shares experiences from digital professionals, with the goal of creating a useful knowledge base for those approaching the world of freelancing and digital entrepreneurship. The editorial team contacted me to explore my professional journey and the approach I’ve developed over the years in the field of design and digital strategy.
The interview is part of a series dedicated to professionals working in the creative sector, offering different perspectives on how to build and manage an independent digital business.

Topics Covered in the Interview

The conversation with the Collabs.io team touched on various aspects of my daily work and the professional philosophy I’ve developed over time.

Educational and professional path: I shared how my training, influenced both by Milan’s dynamic environment and the traditions of Piedmont’s Monferrato region, has contributed to developing an approach that balances innovation and authenticity. The passion for graphic arts, photography, and creative image manipulation are elements that continue to influence my work.

Portfolio evolution: In the interview, I discussed how, over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with very different realities – from small local businesses to international corporations. Each project has contributed to broadening my understanding of different business needs and the specific challenges of each sector.

Freelancing challenges: One of the central points of the conversation was balancing creative vision with business objectives. I shared how this is probably the most complex challenge a freelance designer must face daily – maintaining artistic integrity while working to achieve concrete, measurable results.

Three Fundamental Principles

During the interview, I had the chance to articulate the three principles that guide my professional approach:

  • Continuous learning: The digital design sector evolves rapidly. Staying updated isn’t an option but a necessity. I discussed how I regularly dedicate time to learning new technologies and methodologies.
  • Analytical skills: Beyond the creative component, I emphasized the importance of developing analytical and problem-solving skills. Design isn’t just aesthetics, but solving complex problems through visual and functional solutions.
  • Collaborative approach: I highlighted how teamwork and the ability to collaborate with professionals from different disciplines are fundamental to creating complete and effective solutions.

Reflections on the Industry

The interview gave me the opportunity to share some observations about the current landscape of design and digital marketing in Italy. We’re living in an interesting time, where demand for specialized digital skills is growing, but where it’s also necessary to distinguish yourself through a distinctive approach and demonstrable results.

I discussed how the Italian market is evolving, with companies increasingly aware of the importance of strategic digital positioning. This creates opportunities but also responsibilities for us professionals: we must be able to guide clients toward solutions that aren’t just aesthetically valid, but strategically effective.

The Importance of Professional Networking

One aspect I wanted to emphasize in the interview is the value of building a solid professional network. It’s not just about having contacts, but building authentic relationships based on mutual trust and the quality of work delivered.

The network I’ve built over the years isn’t just a source of new projects, but also professional growth through the exchange of ideas and collaboration on complex projects that require multidisciplinary skills.

This interview represents an important moment of reflection on the journey so far. Sharing your experience isn’t just an exercise in professional storytelling, but an opportunity to contribute to the growth of the Italian design community.

For those interested in exploring the topics discussed further, the full interview offers additional details about my approach to design, the challenges faced, and lessons learned along the way.
